Tipper Gore and other political wives form the Parents Music Resource Center as Frank Zappa and other musicians testify at U.S. Congressional hearings on obscenity in rock music.

Tipper Gore
She became well known for her role in the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC), criticizing music with profane language and promoting Parental Advisory stickers (nicknamed "Tipper Stickers") on record covers, especially in the heavy metal, punk and hip hop genres. Gore explained that her purpose wasn't to put a "gag" on music but, to keep it safe for younger listeners. 


Parents Music Resource Center
The Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) was an American committee formed in 1985 with the stated goal of increasing parental control over the access of children to music deemed to be violent, have drug use or be sexual via labeling albums with Parental Advisory stickers


As a method of combating this alleged problem, the PMRC suggested a voluntary move by the RIAA and the music industry to develop "guidelines and/or a rating system" similar to the MPAA film rating system. Additional suggestions from the PMRC that appeared in an article in the Washington Post included: printing warnings and lyrics on album covers, forcing record stores to put albums with explicit covers under the counters, pressuring television stations not to broadcast explicit songs or videos, reassessing the contracts of musicians who performed violently or sexually in concert, and creating a panel to set industry standards. 

This article led to the removal of rock music and magazines from American stores including Wal-Mart, J. C. Penney, Sears and Fred Meyer.

On November 1, 1985, before the hearing ended, the RIAA agreed to put "Parental Advisory" labels on selected releases at their own discretion. The labels were generic, unlike the original idea of a descriptive label categorizing the explicit lyrics.

Mathematics in Music

“The mind counting without being conscious that it is counting.” That’s how the the philosopher Leibniz described listening to music.

Cognitive scientists have become very interested in the ways the brain grasps musical patterns. It turns out there are overlaps between musical and linguistic and mathematical ability, which have spawned all kinds of theories about how music arose in prehistory. 


Also maths has changed in recent times. It’s no longer just about numbers. It’s about groups and symmetries and chaos and complexity. Mathematicians are in search of patterns, and music is all about pattern-making. 

The Greek-French composer Iannis Xenakis conjured sounds out of Bernouilli’s equations, and Brownian motion.

All this was revealed in a brilliant lecture on music and symmetry, given by Marcus de Sautoy as part of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra’s Interplay series. Symmetry is something music has at the very basic level of sound. 


"Look at the make-up of a single sound on a 3-d oscilloscope, and you find the more pure and beautiful the sound, the more symmetry it has. The purest sound of all is a sine wave, and that looks like a circle. And a circle has infinite axes of symmetry."





Why do we choose one rather than another? Because it captivates us, for a reason we can’t quite define. It may because in some way the progression bends the rules, or actually breaks them. Bach broke the rules quite often, but that doesn’t mean we lesser mortals can do it (as I was often reminded as a student, after handing in a ham-fisted chorale harmonisation). If we could define the thing that gives that special x factor to harmonic progressions, we could produce them to order, or get a computer to do it.

There’s a need to find a pattern with that extra something that is used also when composing music, because a perfect pattern on music is boring, which opens the door to a new world.

Mexican: Whats Mariachi and Banda?

Traditional Mexican music can often be defined by the types of ensembles or bands who perform it. Common traditional ensemble types include

Mariachi
Mariachi bands are perhaps the best known traditional ensemble. They are the international face of traditional Mexican music. Mariachi bands originated in the Mexican region of Jalisco in the mid-1800s and were originally, in essence, wedding bands. The popularity of Mariachi ensembles spread quickly throughout Mexico. In 1907, Mariachis began earning an international reputation when the Mexican government chose a Mariachi band to perform for the visiting US Secretary of State.

The golden age of Mariachi music was the 1950s, when the bands were featured in a number of movies. Though Mariachi has never again met those heights, the bands remain internationally popular. Mariachis typically play a number of different traditional genres, including ranchera, polka and corrido.

The video below is an example of mariachi music featuring the singer Luis Miguel, you'll see a huge amount of people behind playing, that's the Mariachi. 





Banda
Banda can refer to a type of ensemble and a genre of music. Bandas are brass band collectives featuring brass, percussion and woodwind instruments. Banda ensembles were once a regional phenomenon. They appeared in Sinaloa in the 1880s and were extremely popular with the influx of Germans who moved into the region during that time. In the early 1900s, however, Bandas' influence spread all over Mexico as well over the border into Texas. This is an example below:

5 Instrumental Bands you need to listen to.



Well guys, you may want to explore new fields on music, so, one of them I explored after a lot of time, but it's been one of the best genre I've ever explored. So, let me introduce you a few bands I used to play using my portable Bluetooth Speaker, listen to them. 


El Ten Eleven

Sounds like: A hummingbird’s heart pumping bird blood, spacey guitars, and throbbing bass throughout a very bizarrely put together bird’s body.


Man Or Astro-man

Sounds like: Mystery Science Theater 3000, if the robots flung thorny riffs instead of thorny barbs about awful movies.


Ratatat

Sounds like: A rapper with incredible flow who was abandoned in the jungle as a child, then raised by a pan flute and a synth, with an 808 for a big brother. They taught this young boy to only speak using his rhythm, and to only speak when not being spoken to. And now he won’t shut up.

Anamanaguchi

Sounds like: What video-game characters listen to when working up the courage to ask out the hot 16-bit girl at the 8-bit bar.


   

How to Prevent Seizures

Some people is benefit from decreased seizure activity as a result of listening to music.

It's been shown that music by Mozart played on the piano reduces seizure-causing activity in the brain within five minutes of exposure, with many cases showing immediate results in what scientists should called Seizure Wolfgang-banging. Mozart's music reproduction doesn't have to be directly from the piano, but hearing the frequencies out of a portable Bluetooth speaker will do the same work because, there appears to be a connection between our brains and piano music.



It's theorized that "the superorganization of the cerebral cortex . . . may resonate with the superior architecture of Mozart's music". Really though, this is another one of those medical shrug moments, as scientists really haven't figured it out yet. But still working, maybe the answer will come later, but the solution is here already.

Help your Immune System

Have you ever listened to music and felt actually good, full of power, full of energy and even stronger, and the only thing you do is turn louder the sound coming from your portable Bluetooth Speaker? Well, Music has a unexpected effect on our Immune System, it does.

Music brings out a multi-pronged assault to viruses and bacteria. To start, music reduces stress by reducing cortisol levels, a chemical in your brain that causes you to feel stress in the first place. Jazz, bluegrass and soft rock have been found to be especially effective at reducing stress and increasing health because of their similar musical qualities.




If you're wondering if your favorite music is helping your health, a good question to ask is, "Does this music make me want to riot?" If you answered yes, it's not an optimal medicine. 

In addition to simply lowering stress levels, music also raises immune markers in your system, creating more antibodies to fight disease. Ironically. This effect is compounding: Over time, the body can learn to recognize certain types of music (particularly choir or classical music) as immune boosting, continuing the improvement of the immune system. As an added bonus, if you listen to choir music on a regular basis you're almost guaranteed to be immune to STDs as the odds of you ever having sex are quite slim.





   

Parents are changing Traditional Lullabies for Pop Songs

A study revealed that parents are changing traditional lullabies for famous pop songs, to sing their children to sleep 

Mother and fathers admitted they struggle to recall latter verses of the old favorites.

Half of the 2,000 parents polled even admitted their children preferred singing along to chart toppers, with just 15% still favoring nursery rhymes and lullabies.



Managing Director Jonathan Thorpe of John Crane Ltd, distributors of Symphony in B, said: 'It's only natural that parents are singing more modern songs to their children nowadays.
'We are surrounded by music every day, either on the radio, TV or in films, and often once you hear a song, you end up singing it without even realizing.

Evidence shows that children who listen to music are more likely to develop good language skills and all children find music and rhyme safe and comforting.
'They experience a release in dopamine which helps them sleep more soundly, cope with pain better and generally be calmer.



The study found that 88% of children like to listen to music with half most likely to choose a modern pop song over a nursery rhyme or lullaby.

The modern music isn't always a good thing though as a third of parents admit their child is more likely to settle down with a traditional nursery rhyme. Usually those parents like singing along with a low volume portable Bluetooth speaker

It also emerged that 89% of parents think it is important that their children listen to music.
And another 83% of parents hope that encouraging their children to listen to music from a young age means they will have an interest in listening to or playing music as they get older.

Music aids Parkinson


Victims of Parkinson's suffer from muscle spasms, locking muscles, balance problems and sketchy scientists with kick ass time machines. As it turns out, applying music can instantly resolve the physical issues of Parkinson's in many victims.

Take Rande Gedaliah, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2003 and found she had muscle spasms, balance problems and difficulty walking. The disease eventually led to a serious fall in the shower. Things were looking pretty grim until one day she found out she could listen to music and suddenly be able to move with ease, the type of music determining the speed she walks at. 

When listening to music, have you ever noticed your foot tapping on its own? It's because the portions of the brain which deal with rhythm and movement are so automated that it requires no conscious attention to move to a beat. 



This movement isn't handled by the same process as walking up the stairs or hilariously farting with your armpit. Suddenly, patients with bradykinesia--an inability to initiate movement-- can move instantly as their brain interprets the music and sends movement signals to their legs, essentially tricking their bodies into moving. We'll say that again for you: Music can trick your broken, unresponsive body into obedience. 

Music also helps other Parkinson's-related issues, including loss of balance and spasms. It's also been found that playing music creates an improvement in people with the disease, and drum circles are being used as treatment in music therapy groups, presumably because drums are cheaper than fancy-ass medical equipment, anyway.

Does Music has an Effect on your Productiveness

Would we get distracted doing a test while listening to Music? That depends on the task.
Listen to music on a portable Bluetooth Speaker.

"Absorbing and remembering new information is best done with the music off." 

That is the conclusion after an experiment performed, were adults aged 18 to 30 were asked to recall a series of sounds presented in a particular order. Participants’ performance suffered when music was played while they carried out the task as compared to when they completed the task in a quiet environment. 




Other studies have found the following: 

  1. A number of studies have found, for example, that surgeons often listen to music in the operating room and that they work more effectively when they do. 
  2. A study presented at the International Conference on Traffic and Transport Psychology, reported that singing along with music in a car may slow drivers’ responses to potential hazards. 
  3. A Canadian researcher asked the participants in a experiment to learn the lyrics Singing these songs while operating a simulated car increased drivers’ mental workload, leading them to scan their visual field less often and to focus instead on the road right in front of them.


Facts: 

  • Classical or instrumental music enhances mental performance more than music with lyrics. 
  • Music can make rote or routine tasks less boring and more enjoyable. 
  • Silence is for when you need to give learning and remembering your full attention.
   

Get good Notes - 7 Steps

There were sometimes when I was about to take a math test at school, and I asked permission to the professor to listen to music while I take the test. When I was allow to, I was able to fully concentrate, to work faster and wasn't worry about the time at all. Always got a good note. 

It's been around a month since we got back to school. These are some tips to help you while studying, put music on your smartphone or computer and pair it to a portable Bluetooth speaker and have good notes.



1. Classical music is peaceful and harmonious making. Also you want to try ambient instrumental music. Those are the best options to listen to when studying.

2. It seems that there is evidence that Mozart improves mental performance. They call it the “Mozart Effect.”. But as we have discuss before, this effects actually lasts for around 15-20 minutes.

3. Listen to your study music at a moderate volume. The lower the better. The louder it is, the more it will distract you.

4. Listen to sounds of nature such as rain, waves, jungles or animals while studying. While this is not exactly music it is relaxing and you will feel like you’re in another world.



5. Create a playlist that last for 40 to 50 minutes. to avoid having to search for new songs every 5 minutes. When the playlist ends, this will act as a reminder to take a short break from studying.

6. Do not listen to music on the radio when studying. The dialogue of the presenters and ads will distract you.

7. Listen to music before you go to bed or before an exam. This will make you feel relaxed and put you in the right state of mind.

Old fashion Musical Instruments

Introduce you to a few musical instruments of a previous era. Proving that music has always been part of our way of communicating with other. Communicating expressions, feeling and emotions has never been easy, but it is truth that music makes an awesome work assisting us on this.


Percussion Instruments [165,000 years ago]


A percussion instrument  is any object which produces a sound by being hit with an implement, shaken, rubbed, scraped, or by any other action which sets the object into vibration. The human voice was although the first discovered musical instrument, but percussion instruments such as stones, sticks, rocks, and logs were almost certainly the next steps in the evolution of music especially the stones, they were cut in different shapes and designs to change quality and pitch of sound.



Mammoth Ivory Ice-Age Flute [43,400 years ago]


Second world’s oldest known musical instruments has been discovered by German archaeologists. The 18.7-centimetre-long flute, which is carved from mammoth ivory, has three finger holes and would have been capable of playing relatively complex melodies. The flute was found in 31 pieces in the Geißenklösterle cave in mountains near Ulm in southern Germany. Carving a flute from solid ivory is much more demanding than making a flute from bird bones, which are already hollow. The crooked mammoth tusk had to be split and the two halves carefully hollowed out, then bound and glued together along a perfectly airtight seam.




Flute [67,000 years ago]

The date and origin of the first device of disputed status as a musical instrument dates back as far as 67,000 years old. In July 1995, Slovenian archaeologist Ivan Turk discovered a bone carving in the northwest region of Slovenia. The carving, named the Divje Babe flute, features four holes that Canadian musicologist Bob Fink determined could have been used to play four notes of a diatonic scale. Researchers estimate the flute’s age to be  67,000 years old, making it the oldest known musical instrument and the only musical instrument associated with the Neanderthal culture.

Why does Elevators always have the same Music

Have you ever notice how it seems like all the elevators in the world always have the same type of music, and it is even commonly known as a Genre "Elevator Music". Well, there are a few points that explains it.



Elevator music is typically set to a very simple melody so that it can be unobtrusively looped back to the beginning. The dynamic range is also normally reduced, so that the highs and lows do not distract listeners. 

In a mall or shopping center, elevator music of a specific type has been found to have a psychological effect: slower, more relaxed music tends to make people slow down and browse longer. 

This kind of music usually uses the style of smooth jazz genre. 

The major supplier of business background music, and was the best known such supplier for years is Muzak Holdings Corporation.

So, just for you to know, it is all about mind-controlling, or relaxation while shopping.

How does the Brain reacts to Music we like.

Researchers from Stanford reported that when listening to a new piece of classical music, different people show the same patterns of synchronized activity in several brain areas, suggesting some level of universal experience. 

The researchers used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to track real-time brain activity as participants listened to the first 30 seconds of 60 unfamiliar songs. To quantify how much they liked the music, 




All of the participants had to listen to the same set of never-heard-before songs, and decide if they would be willing to buy the song. 

19 volunteers who had indicated similar preferences, mostly electronic and indie music. The researchers created a playlist with genre of music of the volunteers liked.

The brain scans highlighted the nucleus accumbens, often referred to as the brain’s ‘pleasure center’, a deep region of the brain that connects to dopamine neurons and is activated during eating, gambling and sex. It turns out that connections between the nucleus accumbens and several other brain areas could predict how much a participant was willing to spend on a given song. Those areas included the amygdala, which is involved in processing emotion, the hippocampus, which is important for learning and memory, and the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, which is involved in decision-making.

It all depends on past musical experiences and these previous experiences become on templates.




So why is it that one person might spend $$ on a song while another pans it?  Whether you realize it or not, every time you’re listening to music, you’re constantly activating these templates that you have. Using those musical memory templates, the nucleus accumbens then acts as a prediction machine

This study reveals important information on the way the brain works, and we can infer a lot of things starting on the patterns that the brain show but lets just keep inform on this.

Music Streamers - Make you Choice

Well, we know there are a few Apps out there for music streaming for our phone. I've tried some of them. I just pair my phone with Bluetooth enabled media device using my portable Bluetooth speaker and so far, they all have work just great, I totally love them. 

This time I wanted make a fair comparison between those apps and others I haven't tried yet to help you decide, what's the best for you.

I think that whether Google Play Music is a great app and it is already installed on the phone, Spotify has more years on the market and more experience on what the USER wants and needs. Haven't tried Beats yet, but it kind of looks limited.

Why do we Listen to Sad Music?

Read how the experiment demonstrated what could be the reason of this. 
Apparently, if we don't feel any real threat or danger that in a situation in life, we cannot get get affected by music, but it can change our mood in a good way.



Listen to what ever kind of music you want, using a portable Bluetooth speaker. Do not be afraid of music, because it will never make you go down, but all the other way, it will cheer you up.

Sad music can induce intense emotions, yet the type of sadness evoked by music also seems pleasing in its own way, “musical emotion” encompasses both, the felt emotion that the music induces in the listener and the perceived emotion that the listener judges the music to express. By observing how they related to each other, we hoped to gain a better understanding of sad music.

In an experiment, 44 people served as participants. We asked them to listen to one of three musical excerpts of approximately 30 seconds each. The excerpts were from Mikhail Glinka’s “La Séparation” (F minor), Felix Blumenfeld’s “Sur Mer” (G minor) and Enrique Granados’s “Allegro de Concierto” (C sharp major, though the excerpt was in G major, which we transposed to G minor).



A participant would listen to an excerpt and then answer a question about his felt emotions: “How did you feel when listening to this music?” Then he would listen to a “happy” version of the excerpt — i.e., transposed into the major key — and answer the same question. Next he would listen to the excerpt, again in both sad and happy versions, each time answering a question about other listeners that was designed to elicit perceived emotion: “How would normal people feel when listening to this music?”

Our participants answered each question by rating 62 emotion-related descriptive words and phrases — from happy to sad, from bouncy to solemn, from heroic to wistful — on a scale from 0 (not at all) to 4 (very much).

We found, as anticipated, that felt emotion did not correspond exactly to perceived emotion. Although the sad music was both perceived and felt as “tragic”, the listeners did not actually feel the tragic emotion as much as they perceived it. Likewise, when listening to sad music, the listeners felt more “romantic” emotion and “blithe” emotion than they perceived.

Something similar happened with the happy music: perceived blithe emotions were rated higher than their felt counterparts. In general, it appears that perceived emotions may be rated higher than felt emotions when it comes to emotional categories characteristically associated with a given key.

When listening to sad music, then, there is a tension, or slippage, between the two types of emotions. How are we to understand this gap?



One answer might be that in everyday life we typically experience emotions that have a direct connection to whatever object or situation gives rise to them. But when we listen to sad music (or watch a sad movie, or read a sad novel), we are inoculated from any real threat or danger that the music (or movie or novel) represents.
